As a frequent conference speaker I meet all types of people and thus am asked all types of questions. However, there is one question that I seem to be asked quite regularly.
Did I miss out on God’s plan for my life?
Well the question is rarely framed with those exact words… It usually starts with the person strangely praising me for following God’s call on my life “at such a young age” and then gravitates towards them lamenting their age and disinterest in spiritual things for such a large part of their life.
Well I want to tell you if you are reading this… you have not missed the call of God on your life.
The book of Acts tells us:
Acts 2:17 “‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
In other words you can never be too old or too young to be used by God. Yes, you may ‘wasted’ years or maybe even decades of your life but if you are reading this God can redeem the wasted years. Take heart in the words of Paul the apostle…
Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
Remember who wrote this passage! Prior to his Damascus road experience Paul dedicated his life to persecute the very thing he would one day give his life for. So here is the point… Don’t let your past cripple your future.
Three things to remember:
- Your age does not qualify you
- Your age does not disqualify you
- You are right on time
Philippians 3:13-14 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
