So much of our lives are based around goals…
For some of people its:
- A better career
- Lose a few pounds
- To live in a better house
- Find our soul mate
- Fix a broken relationship
- Get a degree
You get the picture…
So much of our lives and energy is spent pursuing goals and trying to answer two questions:
1. “How do I make a better life for myself”?
2. “What will make me feel safe”?
Psalms 90:1-2 states, “Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.”
Here we see a song from Moses prior to entering into the promise land. He is essentially saying “God, your presence is the only place that I want to be. You are my dwelling place. You are my refuge. You are my comfort. You are eternal and you are my home.”
While still desiring his goal ‘the promise land’– he desired God’s presence more.
I’m not saying that we shouldn’t have goals. I am suggesting that we would have a lot more peace and a lot less worry if we would realize that Jesus is our ultimate dwelling place. He alone is eternal.
St. Agustine put it this way:
“You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless, until they can find rest in you.”
Today, find refuge in the presence of God. Know that every goal pales in comparison to the rest you can find in Christ. He is your promise land.
