Spiritual Gift of Teaching

Teaching (Rom. 12:7; Eph. 4:11-14)

The spiritual gift of teaching is the supernatural ability to discern, communicate, and impart truth.

People who possess the gift of teaching have the ability to take complex truths and articulate them in way that is memorable to listeners of various backgrounds. This gift can be expressed in many ways from preaching during a church service, leading a small group, discipleship class, writing books, or disciplining people one on one.

Example from the Scripture:
Here is brief list of people from the New Testament who had the gift of teaching: Apollos (Acts 18:24); Aquila and Priscilla (Acts 18:26); Paul (Acts 28:30-31) ; elders/pastors (1 Timothy 3:2;5:17); Timothy (1 Timothy 4:11); Titus (Titus 2:1); and godly women (Titus 2:24).

When this gift is present:
When the gift of teaching is active in a local congregation people are rooted in sound doctrine, set free from bad thinking and discipled in towards spiritual maturity.

When this gift is absent:
When the gift of teaching is absent in a local church people are vulnerable to being swept up by the latest trend, false teachings, or even demonic influences (Ephesians 4:14).

In the Life of Jesus:
Everywhere that Jesus went he taught the crowds that followed him (Matthew 4:23). In fact one of the names that Jesus was called many times throughout the gospels is the word Rabbi, which means “teacher” (John 1:49).
